Not Bad for the Next to the Last Day of July in Alabama

| July 30, 2017 @ 1:26 pm

It feels really nice out there for the last Sunday of July in Alabama. Temperatures are climbing into the upper 80s, which is plenty warm, but dew points continue to be in the middle 60s. This certainly feels better than the middle 70s of yesterday.

A fairly nice field of fair weather cumulus has formed across most of Alabama. It is a little thicker over the southeastern part of the state, where a plume of slightly higher moisture extends as far northwest as Sumter, Greene and Hale Counties.

Looks like the chance of any widely scattered afternoon and evening storms will be nearly zero until moisture levels return on Thursday. An approaching front will bring increased rain chances for Friday and Friday night, perhaps extending into Saturday morning.

We are monitoring the development of a low over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Chances of tropical development are very low as this system crosses Florida and emerges into the Atlantic where it might have some chance of becoming a tropical storm this week.
