Quiet At This Point; Storms Expected To Form Very Soon

| March 19, 2018 @ 4:35 pm

Other than a few thunderstorms up in the northeastern parts of North Alabama, a few exiting the state into Georgia, and a decent storm in Cullman, Blount, and Marshall counties, radar is pretty quiet at this point. The same cannot be said back to our west in northeastern Mississippi as two Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are in effect for Lee, Prentiss, and Union counties until 4:45 PM, and for Lee, Prentiss, and Tishomingo counties until 5:15 PM.

A Tornado Warning has just been issued for Prentiss and Tishomingo counties until 5:00 PM for a possible tornado located near Pratts Friendship and Baldwin, moving east at 50 MPH.

All signs continue to point to a significant threat of severe weather continuing through the afternoon. Any storms that form this afternoon will rotate and become severe quickly. They will have hail and lightning as well and could produce damaging winds as well. There will be an increased tornado threat as low-level shear values rise over the state through the late afternoon and evening hours.

DON’T PANIC… But stay aware and prepared. Review your safety plan for any places you will be this evening. Have your safety kit handy near your safe place including helmets, hard soled shoes, air horns. Make sure everything is charged up.
