We will warm into the mid 60s today with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Still below average for late March (we should be at 70 this time of the year), but we are moving in the right direction.

TOMORROW AND THE EASTER WEEKEND: Moisture levels will begin to rise tomorrow, but I think most of the day will be dry. A few showers could break out tomorrow afternoon over far North Alabama, but a pretty good part of the state should remain rain-free.

Saturday will be wet at times over the northern half of Alabama with a few passing rain showers; the sky will be generally cloudy with a high around the 70 degree mark. Then, on Sunday, rain should be more widespread with occasional showers and thunderstorms. There will be a little surface based instability, so some thunder is certainly possible, if not likely, but severe weather shouldn’t be a problem with the upper support far north of Alabama. Rain amounts on Sunday should be in the one-half inch range.

NEXT WEEK: Model clarity is a little better. The surface front will remain north of Alabama Monday, and we will keep a good chance of showers/storms going through Monday night. Still no severe weather risk with little in the way of upper support.

Colder and drier air moves in here Tuesday, a little lingering rain is possible Tuesday morning in the colder air. The high will drop into the 50s with a cool north breeze.

Models develop a surface low over the Gulf of Mexico at mid-week, with the GFS moving moisture up and over the cool air at the surface. Accordingly, it shows some light rain here Wednesday and Wednesday night. The ECMWF keeps the rain generally south of here; one way or another if we do see rain on Wednesday it should be light, and there won’t be any thunder with a cool, stable airmass in place.

See the Weather Xtreme video for the graphics, maps, and details.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny today and tomorrow from Panama City west to Gulf Shores; the high today will be in the mid 60s, and close to 70 tomorrow. Just a small risk of a shower Saturday; a better chance of a few showers, and possibly a thunderstorm on Sunday. Highs this weekend will be at or just over 70 degrees… the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is only 55 degrees.
