As we feared, the instability levels have come up as a result of the heating of the day working with increasing moisture moving into form the south ahead of surface low over eastern Mississippi and approaching upper level trough.

Storms continue to intensify east of I-65 and south of I-20 this afternoon. They are beginning to rotate in spots, like in Coosa County. Bigger storms are moving into Gadsden, Pell City and Lincoln. They extend all the way south to near Eclectic in Elmore County. These storms will be very worrisome as they continue to slowly strengthen. They are moving into moderately unstable air over 1,000 joules/kg. Bulk shear is running 30-40 knots in eastern Alabama and helicity values are over 150 m2/s2. This will support the development of tornadoes.

The SPC will issue a tornado watch shortly for eastern Alabama and western Georgia.

The main line of storms ahead of the the front, which lies over northwestern Alabama and eastern Mississippi. Two apparent surface lows have formed along the front, enhancing the shear. The Winston County warning has been canceled as the storm has moved into Lawrence and Morgan Counties. Bryan Falls reported that on co rd 45 near the Winston County/Cullman Co line there was a tree on house with entrapment per Winston Co Sheriff.

Storms will be moving into the Birmingham Metro from the west over the next hour. Additional storms are over the I-20 corridor now from Irondale over to Leeds up to Trussville. This activity is moving into slightly unstable air (about 500-1,000 j/kg, but bulk shear and helicity values are a little higher.
