ANOTHER VERY PLEASANT MORNING: Another nice fall preview; temperatures just before sunrise include…

Black Creek 56
Fort Payne 57
Valley Head 57
Russellville 57
Concord 58
Pleasant Grove 58
Bessemer 60
Anniston 61
Gadsden 61
Birmingham 63

But let’s not forget this is mid-August in Alabama, so we do expect rising heat and humidity levels in coming days. The sky will stay mostly sunny today and tomorrow; the high today will be close to 90, with low 90s possible tomorrow.

We will introduce the risk of widely scattered afternoon showers Sunday as moisture levels rise with a high in the low 90s.

NEXT WEEK: Scattered showers and storms should become more numerous in a moist, unstable environment Monday and Tuesday with a mix of sun and clouds; the high will be in the low 90s both days. Then, we could creep up into the mid 90s over the latter half of the week as a 5940 meter 500 mb ridge sets up just west of Alabama. The ridge also means afternoon showers and storms will become fewer in number by Thursday and Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny weather from Panama City to Gulf Shores today and tomorrow, then for Sunday and much of next week, about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine each day with a few scattered thunderstorms. On the immediate coast highs will remain in the upper 80s, and the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 85 degrees.

TROPICAL WEATHER UPDATE: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet. Waves coming off the African coast fizzle out in the very dry air over the deep tropics, and no sign of any change through early next week.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
