DRY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Despite sunshine in full supply today, we won’t get past the 50 degree mark, and another light freeze is likely early tomorrow. Then, a warming trend begins tomorrow afternoon… we expect a high in the upper 50s with a good supply of sunshine. The weather looks wonderful for the weekend, with ample sunshine Saturday and Sunday along with a high in the low 60s both afternoons.

NEXT WEEK: Clouds will return to the state Monday, and we will forecast a good chance of showers Monday night with a short wave moving in from the west. Moisture will be limited, so rain amounts should be under 1/2 inch, and while a little thunder is possible, severe weather is not expected. The main window for rain will come from about 6:00 p.m. Monday through 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Drier air returns during the day Tuesday, and rain-free weather is likely Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will remain comfortable, with highs generally in the low 60s through mid-week.

LONG RANGE THOUGHTS: The GFS and the ECMWF are in very good agreement, showing a significant storm system impacting Alabama around Saturday December 20. This looks like a rather dynamic feature, and will need to monitored in coming days for severe weather potential. Then, dry and cool weather seems to be the story for the following week, including Christmas Day. Of course, this is out in the “land of voodoo”, and this could easily change. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

WILD WEATHER DAY FOR CALIFORNIA: Heavy rain is moving into the San Francisco Bay area this morning; they will see 3-5 inches of rain over the next few days, and winds today could gust to 40/50 mph at times.

This will be case, however, where the positives could outweigh the negatives; this is beneficial rain for a state that is in severe drought conditions.
