Cold Tonight; Slow Weekend Warm-Up

| January 9, 2015 @ 3:49 pm

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

RADAR CHECK: A band of light rain has been moving over the southern third of Alabama today, with some sleet mixed in at times, but the northern half of the state has been rain-free. And, we are above freezing for the first time since midday Wednesday, with temperatures mostly in the 37-40 degree range.

A secondary surge of colder air will drop into the state tonight, and that will push early morning temperatures tomorrow into the 14-19 degree range for most communities. A few of the colder spots might even visit the single digits briefly early tomorrow morning.

OUR WEEKEND: Tomorrow will be mostly but cold with a high between 39 and 42 degrees. Then, the sky becomes mostly cloudy Sunday, and we will bring in the chance of some scattered light rain Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. The high Sunday will be close to 50 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: A few periods of rain are likely Monday, and while Tuesday looks relatively dry (but cloudy), more rain arrives Wednesday and Wednesday night. Temperatures will be warm enough for no issues with snow or ice, and cool enough for no thunderstorm issues. Rain amounts Sunday night through Wednesday night will be in the 1/2 to 1 inch range. Drier air arrives Thursday and Friday; highs through the week will be mostly in the 50s, right at seasonal average for mid-January in Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.
