Weather Trending Drier

After what has been a long string of wet weather for Central Alabama, we are trending drier today. There is still a small risk for showers especially from Birmingham northward across the Tennessee River Valley, and with the clouds holding in we might see a little drizzle this morning. By afternoon we could see some breaks in the clouds that will allow the sun to peek through. We should also see the wedge pushed off to the east allowing temperatures to climb into the upper 60s and lower 70s.

The weather goes drier on Sunday and Monday with highs climbing into the 70s for some nice warm March days thanks in part to a fairly strong ridge aloft. But the dry weather comes to an end once again on Wednesday as a short wave kicks out of northern Mexico and comes across the Lower Mississippi River Valley. As that short wave trough moves by, we should see a chance for showers on Wednesday and Thursday. Along with the clouds and rain chances, we should see temperatures drop back into the 50s for highs with lows in the 40s.

We should dry out again on Friday as a ridge takes hold once again. But the ridge does not hold long with another short wave coming out of the southern Rockies on Saturday which promises to bring yet another chance for rain and showers. Look for highs in the 60s and lower 70s.

The weather pattern remains active with another nice ridge around the 25th of March, but that is replaced fairly quickly by another fairly deep trough over the eastern US around the 28th of March that promises a possible threat for some severe storms. But remember, this is well out into week 2 so we’re looking primarily for trends and not specifics.
