Cooler Today and Sunday

After a stormy night across Central and North Alabama, the weather is settling down with improving conditions as Central Alabama sees a good supply of sunshine for the afternoon with highs a good bit cooler than recent days with highs in the middle 60s. We stay dry into Easter Sunday and there is a possibility of a little light frost for Northeast Alabama Sunday morning, but what frost does occur should be spotty. Easter Sunday will be sunny with highs around 70.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Scattered showers on the coast this morning from Gulf Shores over to Panama City, otherwise mostly sunny days and fair nights will continue through Monday. Widely scattered showers are possible Tuesday through Thursday of next week, but in spite of daily shower chances expect about 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day. Highs will remain in the 70s, and sea water temperatures are in the mid to upper 60s.

Showers with some thunderstorms return into Monday as the upper flow shows weak ridging but with embedded weak disturbances transiting the southern stream. This will keep our weather situation somewhat unsettled with small daily chances for showers or a thunderstorm. This will allow us to warm up somewhat by the middle of the week as highs return to the lower 80s for Wednesday and Thursday.

The next major feature for us will be another cold front in the Friday-Saturday time frame just in time for next weekend. Highs will be mainly in the middle and upper 70s thanks to clouds. Rain chances should diminish by Sunday.

Voodoo country remains active with an active southern stream in the westerlies as we work out into Week 2. The GFS paints a strong upper low moving through the Central Plains around the 17th and 18th of April which could spell a substantial severe weather risk for the Southeast and Central US.
