Messy Rush Hour

| April 10, 2015 @ 7:06 am

It is a messy rush hour across a large part of the Birmingham Metro area this morning with torrential rain falling from thunderstorms.

Rain is heaviest across the southern part of the Metro, especially along I-459 to the west of I-65 and over much of the area east of I-65.

The left panel shows the current radar. The right panel shows the rainfall which has fallen over the past hour. Rainfall rates of over an inch per hour have occurred. 1.34 inches of rain fell at the Birmingham Airport in just one hour.

This has resulted in minor flooding on some roadways, slowing traffic and causing accidents. The NWS has issued an Areal Flood Advisory for parts of Jefferson County.

Slow down and plan for a longer commute this morning.
