Hot Summer Days; Isolated Storms

| July 13, 2015 @ 3:30 pm

MUST BE JULY IN ALABAMA: Temperatures are actually pretty close to average values for mid-July this afternoon, with generally low to mid 90s…

And, as you might expect, we have a few isolated storms on radar moving southeast. Nothing widespread or especially heavy so far.

TOMORROW: Pretty much the same setup, although SPC has the northern third of the state under the standard “slight risk” of severe storms, with a “marginal risk” down into South Alabama.

Most of the day will be hot and dry with a high in the mid 90s and a few isolated storms, but the high resolution NAM model continues to suggest an organized band of storms will arrive late tomorrow night, impacting mainly areas along and north of I-20. The main window for this will come from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., and the main threat will come from strong straight line winds.

WEDNESDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Very typical weather for mid to late July in Alabama. Hot, hazy days, fair nights, a few isolated showers and storms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will be mostly in the mid 90s. There will be small variations in the placement and coverage of afternoon storms, but this is determined by mesoscale features, and can’t be identified far in advance. The chance of any one spot seeing a storm each afternoon will remain in the 20-30 percent range.

See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days, fair nights on the Gulf Coast from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores through the weekend, with an occasional passing storm. Highs on the immediate coast between 87 and 90, with mid 90s likely inland.

CLAUDETTE FORMS: All of a sudden we have a tropical storm in the Atlantic; Claudette formed earlier today off the East Coast of the U.S… it is moving quickly to the northeast, and is no threat to the U.S. mainland. It will arrive as a post-tropical storm across the Canadian maritimes by Wednesday.
