Nice Shot Of Cool Air By The Weekend

| September 10, 2015 @ 6:14 am

RADAR CHECK: We have light rain this morning in scattered pockets across Alabama; a moist airmass stays in place today, and we will forecast a good chance of showers and thunderstorms through the day with a mostly cloudy sky.

The high today will be in the low 80s in most spots, a few communities could hold in the 70s all day due to clouds and showers.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: The first of two cold fronts will bring drier air into the northern half of the state tonight, and a decent part of the day tomorrow will be dry with a partly sunny sky and only isolated showers. Then, the second surface front will bring a chance of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, tomorrow night into early Saturday.

Cooler, drier air will move into North Alabama Saturday; by midday most of the showers will be along and south of U.S. 80 (Demopolis to Selma to Montgomery to Opelika). A fresh north breeze develops, humidity values will drop, and the high Saturday afternoon will be only in the mid to upper 70s.

Sunday will be delightful; sunshine in full supply with low humidity. We start the day down in the low 50s, and the high Sunday afternoon will be in the 75-78 degree range. Doesn’t get much better in September.

NEXT WEEK: Monday morning will be another cool one with a low between 48 and 52 degrees for most places… the last time Birmingham had a low in the 40s was back on May 22 when the low was 48. Monday and Tuesday will feature a mostly sunny sky with just a slow warming trend. A few showers could return Wednesday, but the 06Z GFS hints any showers will be pretty widely separated. Highs will be generally in the 80s… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

Auburn plays their first game of the season at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday against Jacksonville State; kickoff is at 11:00. Showers are possible during the first half of the game, but the second half should be dry. Temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 70s.
