Less Humid Air On Its Way

A cold front lies across South Alabama this afternoon with a surge of drier air entering Northwest Alabama. Dewpoints have plunged from 64F to 54F at Muscle Shoals in the past four hours. This drier air will work into the I-20 Corridor overnight and Monday dewpoints in places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Anniston will be in the 50s as well. A few dewpoints in the 40s will appear as well.

Temperatures are warm, ranging generally in the upper 80s, with a couple of lower 90s in the US-80 Corridor. Across North Alabama, readings are generally in the lower and middle 80s as the drier and slightly cooler air filters in. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower and middle 80s.

Skies are partially sunny to mostly cloudy, with some high clouds drifting across and some thicker cumulus clouds in spots.

A few showers have shown up on radar across Southwest Alabama’s Sumter and Choctaw Counties. They are moving east southeast, and will stay south of US-80, running between Demopolis and Troy. There is a slight chance of a shower in this same area Monday, with a less than 1 in 10 chance further north across the rest of Central Alabama tomorrow.

I hope to see you tomorrow night at the Central Alabama National Weather Association Chapter Meeting. Jim Stefkovich and Holly Allen of the National Weather Service have assembled the heads of the four families for a panel discussion among the local Chief Meteorologists. They have a great slate of questions that have been gathered from people like you. The meeting starts at 645 and the panel starts promptly at 7. The meeting is only to the public. Admission is free for members of the chapter. Dues are just $25, which includes the meeting and the holiday party. Non-member admission is just $10. Soft drinks and water will be provided.
