Some Rain At Times Today

| September 21, 2015 @ 6:33 am

RADAR CHECK: A short wave is interacting with some tropical moisture this morning across Alabama, producing areas of light rain. We even note a few thunderstorms over the southern half of the state.

Showers will end from west to east later today; we project a high in the mid to upper 70s today due to the clouds and showers.

REST OF THE WEEK: The weather looks relatively quiet around here tomorrow through Friday, with partly sunny days along with highs in the mid 80s. The chance of rain is very small, not really enough to mention in the forecast through mid-week. The 06Z GFS does hint at some risk of showers Friday afternoon and Friday night, mainly over Northeast Alabama.

THE WEEKEND: Saturday looks mostly dry with only widely scattered showers, but the weather will begin to trend wetter Sunday as moisture increases. We reach the mid 80s Saturday, but Sunday’s high should be in the upper 70s due to clouds and showers.

The risk of showers will continue into early next week with an upper low in place across the Deep South. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama will host ULM (University of Louisiana at Monroe) Saturday at 3:00 at Bryant Denny Stadium; there will be cloudy periods during the game, but only a small risk of a passing shower. Temperatures will fall from near 84 degrees at kickoff, into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter. Mississippi State will visit Auburn at Jordan Hare Stadium Saturday evening (6:30 kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with just an outside risk of a little light rain. Temperature at kickoff near 77 degrees, falling to near 70 by the final whistle.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Ida in the Central Atlantic won’t move much this week, but it begins to accelerate northward in about 4-5 days over the open water with no risk to land. It could briefly become a hurricane late this week.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Cloudy periods today from Gulf Shores east to Panama City Beach with a few passing showers, then about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily tomorrow through Friday with only widely scattered showers. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the mid 80s, and the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 81 degrees.
