Moderate to heavy rain covers about 60% of Central Alabama at this hour.

The heaviest rain extends from Jasper to between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham on into Greene County.

There is heavy lightning over much of Greene County. This activity is associated with another small mesoscale vortex. As it translates northeast it will affect parts of Hale, Bibb and eventually the Birmingham Metro.

A threat of severe weather continues in areas south of a line from Butler to Moundville to Brookwood to Alabaster to Sylcauga and Clayton. The main threat will be damaging winds, with a low end threat for small, spin up tornadoes, especially in bowing segments and mesoscale vortices.

A new tornado watch has been issued for much of South Central Alabama.

In addition, heavy rains could cause localized flooding.
