Isolated Showers Tomorrow; Cold Sunday

| November 20, 2015 @ 6:12 am

DRY, PLEASANT WEATHER CONTINUES TODAY: With dry air in place, we expect a bright sunny sky across Alabama today with a high in the low to mid 60s this afternoon. This is right at seasonal averages; the average high today for Birmingham is 64.

BIG WEEKEND CHANGES: To the north, a major November snow is likely from Des Moines over to Chicago, Milwaukee, and Grand Rapids with 10 inches in spots. The trailing cold front will pass through Alabama tomorrow, and could squeeze out a few sprinkles or showers. Moisture will be very limited, so rain amounts, if any, will be light.

Otherwise, tomorrow will feature a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the 60-65 degree range.

Following the front, much colder air blows in here tomorrow night; it should easily be the coldest air so far this season. We drop into the 27-31 degree range early Sunday, and despite sunshine in full supply, Sunday’s high will be only in the mid 40s, about 20 degrees below average. A steady north wind of 10-20 mph will make it feel colder.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Monday will be the coldest morning with a low in the mid 20s; colder valleys will drop to near 20 degrees. Then, the rest of the week will be rain-free with a day to day warming trend; by Thanksgiving afternoon we will reach the low to mid 60s.

It is WAY too early to be specific for Iron Bowl Saturday, and models have not been consistent, as you might expect. The latest GFS (06Z) run now gives a dry and pleasant look for the day for Alabama, but that could change again. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
