RADAR CHECK: As expected, most of the rain today across Alabama has been across the Tennessee Valley…

The rain is generally north of a stalled front that is between Birmingham and Huntsville; we have a 21 degree swing on either side of the front. At 2:00, Montgomery was a warm 79 degrees, while Muscle Shoals as at 58 behind the front.

TOMORROW: The front sags slowly southward, and rain moves down into the I-20/59 corridor. Meaning a wet day for places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, and Gadsden. Rain amounts for these cities will be in the one inch range; heavier amounts will be over the northeast corner of the state, where DeKalb, Marshall, and Jackson Counties could see over two inches of rain by tomorrow night.

We note flash flood watches are in effect for North Georgia and the eastern half of Tennessee, but flooding issues are not expected in Alabama. Temperatures will hover in the 60-65 degree range much of the day tomorrow as the rain falls.

WEDNESDAY: Rain will taper off during the morning, and the weather turns noticeably cooler. Most places across North/Central Alabama won’t get out of the 50s, and a few spots to the north could hold in the 40s all day.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: These two days will be cool and dry, with sunny days and fair nights. Highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s. A little below average for early December in Alabama.

THE WEEKEND: We stay rain-free Saturday and Sunday with a high in the low 60s both days under a mostly sunny sky. Early morning lows will be in the 35-42 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: Showers will return to Alabama Monday, but for now it doesn’t look like a big rain event. And, we see no severe weather setup for the state through the next 10 days, good news since we are still in the core of the late fall tornado season here. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: If you are headed to the SEC Championship game Saturday in Atlanta, the weather will be delightful, with a sunny sky and a high around 60 degrees. Nice weather inside the dome and outside as well this year.

DECEMBER ARRIVES TOMORROW: For Birmingham the average high is 60 degrees on December 1… falling to 53 on December 31. Warmest December temperature on record is 80, recorded on December 7, 1951. Coldest is 1, measured on December 23, 1989. The late fall tornado season continues through the month, and the probability of a “white Christmas” is less than one percent, based on historical data/averages.
