Scott’s Synoptic Sidebar — Somewhat Sunny Skies, Some Scattered Showers

As we have hit the midday hour, we have a mix of sun and clouds across Central Alabama, with a few scattered showers falling over the eastern locations of the area. The rest of the area is dry and warm. Temperatures were already in the mid 70s to the lower 80s, and with dewpoints in the 60s to the lower 70s, it’s feeling just a touch on the muggy side. We have a chance of scattered showers & storms today, with the higher chances over the northern half and the extreme eastern side of Central Alabama, while much of the rest of the area will remain dry. Highs will range from the lower 80s to the upper 80s. A few isolated showers & storms will remain possible over the eastern parts of the area and to the extreme southern parts into the late night hours, but should come to an end around or just after midnight. Lows in the lower to mid 60s.

Sunday will be an even warmer and a little more humid as we are still seeing the potential of a shortwave moving into the area by the evening which will bring an increase to our rain and storm chances, eventually becoming likely across Central Alabama by the start of the late night hours. However, scattered showers and storms will be possible during the afternoon as well, with the daytime heating. For now, severe weather does not look likely, but we could see a strong storm or two as some gusty winds may occur. Afternoon highs will reach the mid 80s to the lower 90s. Rain and storms will be likely into the late night and overnight hours, with lows in the lower to mid 60s.

Next week continues to look the same for now, with the daily chance of a few isolated to scattered afternoon showers or storms for Monday through Wednesday. Thursday may be an active day as a cold front looks to move into the area late, bringing a chance of strong storms with the potential of gusty winds and hail. A couple storms may become severe, but at this point, SPC does not have a severe storm risk up. Rain will come to an end from west to east on Friday as the front exits, and a more springlike atmosphere moves in with dry and mild temperatures. Highs will be in the 80s to the lower 90s through Thursday, but dropping back into the upper 70s to the upper 80s by Friday.
