As of late this morning, all the rain and storms are over the northern portions of the state, but through the afternoon and evening hours, the radar will get a lot more active across Central Alabama. Again, rainfall will be heavy at times, and expect lots of lightning if you find yourself under one of these storms.
Sun, clouds, hot temperatures, and high humidity, it looks and feels like mid-July in Alabama. Scattered showers and storms have been ongoing through the morning hours, but through the afternoon and evening hours, expect the coverage of rain and storms to increase.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses as heat index values up to 109° are expected across much of Alabama. With hotter weather in the forecast, these advisories will likely be extended through the weekend.
Hurricane Beryl remains a very powerful category 5 hurricane. Beryl is a historic storm, being the earliest category 5 hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin, and only the second category 5 during the month of July (Emily 2005).
Routine summer weather is in the forecast with partly sunny, hot, humid days with the usual risk of scattered showers and storms on a daily basis generally during the afternoon and evening hours.
Recent data from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft and visible satellite imagery indicate a well-defined center of circulation and is producing winds to near 35 mph, but the associated showers and thunderstorms are not quite organized enough for this system to be considered a tropical cyclone.
New day, same forecast with mainly dry and hot weather in place across Alabama. We continue to see a mix of sun and clouds, and rain chances are less than 10%, but a stray pop-up shower or two cannot be ruled out.
Warm and muggy weather for Alabama through Thursday with partly sunny days and random, scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms each day.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few isolated, small showers across Alabama this afternoon, otherwise the sky features a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures mostly in the 80s. Low 90s are being reported across the southeast counties of the state; Ozark is up to 93 degrees at mid-afternoon.
LIKE SUMMER: We project a high in the 87-91 degree range across Alabama today with a mix of sun and clouds. A few isolated showers or storms could pop up this afternoon and early tonight, but many places will be dry.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few widely scattered showers over mainly the western half of Alabama at mid-afternoon; temperatures are in the mid to upper 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. We note Dothan has reached 91 degrees.
FEELS LIKE SUMMER: A humid airmass covers Alabama this morning with temperatures mostly in the 70s at daybreak. With a partly sunny sky temperatures rise into the mid to upper 80s this afternoon, and a few scattered showers and storms will form during the heat of the day.
RADAR CHECK: We have some lingering light rain early this morning across parts of North and East Alabama, but most of the state is dry with a cloudy sky along with temperatures in the 60s. Today will be another warm, humid day with a mix of sun and clouds along with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight.
SUMMER PATTERN STAYS IN PLACE: Look for highs mostly in the mid 80s across Alabama through Friday, about 5 degrees above average for mid-May. The weather will remain warm and humid with a mix of sun and clouds daily along with random, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Most of them (but not necessarily all) will come during the afternoon and evening hours, from roughly 2:00 until 9:00 p.m.
