As of 6:51 AM, radar indicated a strong storm centered near the Gap of the Mountain area, right over Clanton, and it’s tracking east at about 45 miles per hour.
Long-lasting clusters of thunderstorms are moving eastward across northern Mississippi and central Alabama, with isolated hail and strong wind gusts still possible.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has updated the Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Central Alabama.

At 4:59 AM, radar showed a line of strong thunderstorms moving east at 50 miles per hour, stretching from near Morris to Brighton and toward Deerlick Creek Campgrounds. These storms are producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
At 4:05 AM, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Smith Dam, about 8 miles southeast of Arley, moving quickly east at 50 miles per hour. This storm is packing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour along with quarter-size hail.
At 4:00 AM, a line of strong to severe thunderstorms was moving southeast at 35 miles per hour, stretching from near Smith Dam to Ethelsville. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail up to the size of quarters.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, conditions are shaping up for a round of potentially severe thunderstorms across portions of the Tennessee Valley, including parts of northern Alabama.
At 2:37 AM, a line of severe thunderstorms was moving east at 35 miles per hour, stretching from near Detroit to northwest of Sulligent and back toward Aberdeen. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail up to the size of quarters.
At 2:30 AM, a line of severe thunderstorms was moving east at about 55 miles per hour. This line extended from near Belmont to Detroit and southeast of Amory, and is expected to continue its eastward march across northwest Alabama.
As of 2:26 AM CDT, this line stretched from near Fairview to southeast of Smithville and near Aberdeen. These storms will be impacting parts of western Walker, Marion, Winston, Fayette, and Lamar Counties through at least 3:45 AM.
The National Weather Service has issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 275, which has been issued until 10 AM CDT this morning.
A complex of thunderstorms moving out of Mississippi and Tennessee may begin affecting portions of north Alabama through the early morning hours.
Strong to severe storms are expected after midnight across northern Alabama, with damaging winds and hail possible.
