A heat wave grips Alabama today and into the early part of the week with heat indices topping 105°, and only isolated storms offering brief relief.
RADAR CHECK: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are most numerous over the southern 2/3 of Alabama this afternoon… stronger storms are producing heavy rain and frequent lightning. Away from the showers temperatures are near 90 degrees… showers will fade after sunset.
HOT, HUMID SUMMER WEATHER: As an upper ridge begins to strengthen across the Deep South, our forecast will highlight slowly rising heat levels over the next five days. Expect a high in the low 90s today and tomorrow, mid 90s Sunday and Monday, followed by upper 90s Tuesday and Wednesday.
RADAR CHECK: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are over the southern 3/4 of Alabama this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures are mostly in the 80s and low 90s; scattered showers will fade after dark.
SUMMER DAYS: Classic summer weather continues across Alabama and the Deep South through the weekend. Partly sunny, hot, humid days with the risk of a passing afternoon/evening shower or thunderstorm in scattered spots. Afternoon highs will be mostly in the low 90s through Saturday, followed by mid 90s Sunday.
RADAR CHECK: Again today we have the classic case of random, scattered showers and thunderstorms on radar this afternoon across Alabama. Some spots are getting a big downpour, but many other places have no rain at all with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Temperatures are mostly in the low 90s away from storms.
