Showers Return Thursday

| April 19, 2016 @ 3:29 pm

WARM, DRY DAY: We have high clouds over parts of North and West Alabama this afternoon, but the low levels are very dry, and there is no rain in progress across the state as of mid-afternoon. Temperatures are generally around 80 degrees.

The weather won’t change much tomorrow; a mix of sun and clouds with a high around 80 degrees.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Showers return to the state Thursday as the blocking pattern breaks down. Best chance of rain will come Thursday afternoon and Thursday night; the rain won’t be continuous, and amounts probably won’t be too heavy.

New guidance (12Z) has come in slower with the departure of the rain, and it looks like we will need to maintain the chance of showers and thunderstorms through the day Friday, and maybe even into Friday evening. Surface based CAPE values will rise to over 1,500 j/kg during the day Friday, so some thunder is certainly possible, but dynamic support isn’t overly impressive, and severe storms are not expected.

Rain amounts by Friday evening will be in the 1/2 to 3/4″ rain for most places.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Still looking very nice, with ample sunshine Saturday and Sunday. The high Saturday will be in the upper 70s, followed by low 80s Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: Warm, dry weather continues Monday; a few showers are possible Tuesday and Wednesday, but the best upper support for storms will remain west of our state. An upper ridge will keep temperatures warm through the week… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA: Drivers will have to dodge raindrops at the Barber Motorsports Park Friday, but Saturday and Sunday will be dry with sunny days and fair nights. The high Friday will be in the mid 70s, followed by upper 70s Saturday, and low 80s Sunday. Get ticket information here.

AT THE BEACH: Dry and pleasant weather continues on the Gulf Coast tomorrow from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach, but showers and storms are possible Thursday and Friday. Then, the weekend looks excellent with sunny days and fair nights. Highs will remain mostly in the 70s… See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
