Dry Days Continue; Slow Warming Trend
FINE FALL WEATHER: Temperatures are about 10 degrees below average across the great state of Alabama today, with upper 60s and low 70s for most places. The sky is partly to mostly sunny, and no rain is on radar.
The weather won’t change much over the weekend; sunny days, clear nights, and just a slow warming trend. The high tomorrow will be close to 80, followed by low 80s Sunday. Early morning lows will be mostly in the 50s, but we will see 40s in the cooler pockets again.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Looking fantastic for tonight’s high school games; a clear sky with temperatures falling through the 60s during the games (remember, they were falling through the 80s this last Friday night). Some stadiums will see 50s by the fourth quarter, and a light jacket will be in order.
Alabama will host Kentucky tomorrow evening at Bryant-Denny Stadium (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from 73 at kickoff, into the mid 60s by the fourth quarter.
Auburn hosts Louisiana-Monroe tomorrow at Jordan Hare Stadium (2:30p CT kickoff)… expect a sunny sky with a kickoff temperature of 78 degrees…falling into the upper 60s by the final whistle.
NEXT WEEK: Dry weather continues, and drought conditions will worsen across the state. Sunny days, fair nights, highs in the 80s and lows the upper 50s and low 60s. Prospects for rain over the next 10 days just are not good for Alabama.
AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days, fair nights, and only a small risk of a shower daily on the coast from Panama City Beach to Gulf Shores through next week. Highs in the 80s… See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
BARBER VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE FESTIVAL: This event runs from Friday October 7 through Sunday October 9 at the Barber Motorsports Park. No real skill in a specific forecast this far out, but October is our driest month of the year, and for now we see nothing to suggest any chance of rain event on these three days. MATTHEW: The hurricane in the Caribbean is now a major hurricane with top winds of 120 mph. It will turn right, moving over Jamaica, eastern Cuba, and the Bahamas in coming days. No threat to the Gulf of Mexico; it remains to be seen if this will directly threaten any part of the U.S. East Coast.
The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
