Final Edition of Low Temperatures
This is quite a round up of low temperatures–state, regional and national. Hope you don’t get bored reading through all of this. Two things to remember. We get more than one report from different sources in the same community. The official weather stations send out their low temperature at 6:00 a.m. and noon. That report from Grayson Valley had to be wrong. I live there and the thermometer said 12* at 6:30 AM when I left for work.
Just spoke with my brother in Mentone-his low, like Valley Head, was 4. A friend who lives 6 miles north of Mentone(Cloudland Ga ) reported 3.
Why isn’t anyone reporting on the 12z GFS>. If cold air stays, we are looking at a 4-6 inch snowfall.
G,
Can you post a link to that? I’m not seeing what you’re seeing.

all modles starting to look better for snow
FIRST CHALLENGE COMES SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY WITH NEXT COLD
FRONT. MODELS AGREE THAT PRECIP CHANCES AND INCREASED MOISTURE WILL
ARRIVE A BIT QUICKER THAN PREVIOUS RUNS. AFTER RUNNING THROUGH THE
SCENARIO WITH SEVERAL MODELS SOUNDINGS…IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS NO
SATURATION UP TO -10 C…THEREFORE NOT GREAT CRYSTAL GROWTH. ALSO
WILL HOLD SURFACE TEMPS JUST ABOVE FREEZING AFTER MIDNIGHT. SO AT
THIS POINT…WILL MENTION SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS AFTER
MIDNIGHT. WILL HAVE TO MONITOR FOR LOCALIZED AREAS AT FREEZING…BUT
AMOUNTS WILL BE VERY LIGHT AND RATHER LARGE LAYER JUST ABOVE
FREEZING. IT WILL BE INTERESTING HOW THE LOW LEVELS ACTUALLY MODIFY
AFTER THIS ARCTIC AIR. EXPECT ADDITIONAL WARMING INTO THE DAYLIGHT
HOURS…SO SMALL POPS 20-30 FOR RAIN SHOWERS AS FRONT ZIPS BY.
MODELS HINTED THAT THIS PATTERN MAY UNDERGO SOME CHANGES AT THE
START OF THE WEEK. THE LAST FEW DAYS…MODEL SOLUTIONS HAVE HELD
ONTO A RATHER AMPLIFIED PATTERN WITH THE TROUGH REMAINING ACROSS THE
EASTERN UNITED STATES. THIS WILL BRING US SOME REINFORCING SHOTS OF
COLD AIR…WITH MODERATING TREND HELD OFF UNTIL AT LEAST WEDNESDAY.
AT THIS TIME…THE AIRMASSES DO NOT LOOK AS COLD AS THIS MORNING…
BUT INTO THE 20S FOR MOST AREAS THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING. AN UPPER
LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVES OVER THE AREA MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT. MODEL
SOUNDINGS SUPPORT FROZEN PRECIP. WILL ADD MENTION OF SNOW FLURRIES
MONDAY AFTERNOON AND MONDAY NIGHT AREAWIDE…WITH NO ACCUMULATIONS
ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME.
14 degrees in Cahaba Heights this morning
Had -31 in my pickup this am (after I had to jump start it)
Prediction: Atlanta will have a measurable, accumulation of snow on Sunday.
what do the new models have for montgomery ?
30.2 at 2pm, 34% humidity. Winds are light. High today was 33.3. Baro is at 30.56 (29.65). Sunny.
The highs on Sunday will be in the upper 40′s over Alabama which will not support frozen precip. However, East of the state, It will be more supportive of frozen precip. That is based on the GFS only. I am sure the models will come more into agreement tomorrow and then we will know more about precip type.
as of 2:15 Friday afternoon… the thermometer on my roof on Cliff Rd in Bham (in the shade) says 24.8 degrees F. Has been reading lower than the airport all day…
i’m confused. which models have alabama getting some snow. some people on here are saying that the new models have parts of alabama getting snow.
jim why do you say that models are looking better for bama to get snow.
It just might happen, Patrick, but it could turn out to be a wintry mix.
Parts of Alaska are 20 degrees warmer then Alabama/Georgia, with widespread highs in the 40′s today. The last report out of Wasilla, AK was 50 degrees!!
I can’t wait to see comments from other Chicagoans once they read what Brian Peters’ daughter said; is she special or something?
Millions of people live in the cold north and tolerate it, survive it, and don’t make comments about how cold it is.
After 19 years of living in Alabama, I’m convinced the fear and terror spread about cold weather is laughable considering how many people in this country live in far colder conditions.
Rob that comment was not needed here. And yes she is special to Brian and his family.
Rob, I bet there are lots of folks commenting about how cold it is in Chicago and across the northern states – minus 17 is exceptionally cold no matter where you are.
I guess Rob has spoken to these millions of people who never make comments about how cold it is. What fear and terror? It is cold, colder than it normally gets here in Alabama (I’ve lived here 44 years as opposed to your 19 years) and sometimes people need hints on things to do to save them money and stay safe. I haven’t seen any of this fear and terror. I think Rob is being a little bit of a drama queen.
whats that on the radar in mississippi?
Suzie…how was your picture yesterday…did you remember your brush;)
Isn’t it amazing now matter where you go, (right now being this blog) you always find people like Rob (rolling my eyes) seems like some people missed in Kindergarden how to be nice.
According to the new models looks like bham to tuscaloosa could get 1-2 inches montgomery could get a dusting..moisture not making it up towards cullman county and walker co…sorry jasper
Rob=Fail
After living in the north and now here, I can say from experience that the “drama” is the discussion and fear of regular ol’ cold.
Millions and millions of people live in the colder climates without the fear, drama, and incited terror associated with winter. It really is a disservice when blogs like this emphasize cold weather as if it’s something more than it is.
The end result is what is said above; “we ARE special because…”
That sure is a lot of moisture on sunday’s model, hopefully this cold air won’t run off too fast before the moisture arrives! Let it snow, Let it snow!!
Yes Beth, I did remember to take a brush, the picture went fine. Might be one of the best I’ve had lol Yeah Rob obviously doesn’t “play well with others”. hehe Tuscaloosa, you must be a fan of the Fail Blog like I am. You hit the nail on the head! Funny!
Enjoyed a balmy 34 degrees on Dauphin Island last night!
And as a response to “Rob” and his obviously intelligent comments…maybe you shouldve stayed up north. Sit back and read the blog without the mindset that you’re all knowing. Better yet, just shut up. Im sure I speak for many more on here after reading your ignorant comments.
Right on, Scott.
Yep Matt, being from “up north”, bet ol’ Rob starts complaining about 100 degrees and 70% humidity in July down here. Then, we’ll just tell him, “Millions of southerners deal with hot weather every year and don’t complain.” What a moron.
