Warmer This Weekend; A Few Showers

| March 23, 2018 @ 5:51 am

ANOTHER CHILLY START: Temperatures are near the freezing mark over East Alabama this morning, it is not as cold over the western counties where we are seeing mostly 40s. We actually have a few echoes on radar over the western half of the state at daybreak, but most of that is not reaching the ground. Other than a few sprinkles, today should be dry with a mix of sun and clouds; we rise into the 60-65 degree range this afternoon.

THE WEEKEND: Most of the day tomorrow will be dry; the sky becomes mostly cloudy and the high will be in the low to mid 70s. Then, we will mention a chance of showers tomorrow night and Sunday as a weak surface front drifts in from the north, and stalls over Central Alabama. Moisture will be limited, and rain amounts should be under 1/2 inch for most places. No “wash out”, but just be ready for an occasional shower. Sunday’s high will be in the low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: A wedge of colder air will creep into Alabama from the east Monday; the day looks cold and wet with periods of rain. Some East Alabama communities could hold in the chilly 40s all day; temperatures will be in the 50s elsewhere.

Tuesday and Wednesday for now look generally dry with only widely scattered showers; we warm back into the 60s Tuesday, followed by low to mid 70s Wednesday. Then, rain and thunderstorms are likely Thursday and Thursday night with a rather vigorous system which will need to be monitored for severe weather potential. Too early to be specific now; cooler and drier air follows for Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
