A few notes from our chats this morning about the tornado and flooding…

National Weather Service Survey teams are in Tallapoosa, Lee and Russell Counties where tornadoes touched down this morning. Their first report:

5 NNE Milstead [Tallapoosa Co, AL] NWS storm survey reports TORNADO (F0) at 07:40 AM CST — tornado touched near county road 51 in far southern Tallapoosa county. Small trees and power lines were blown down and a fire was reported. 2 outbuildings were destroyed and some shingle damage to homes. Approximately one mile long and 100 yards wide.

Spotter/chaser Brett Adair reports that there is severe damage in the town of Salem with significant damage in the business district.

This is an unverified report from the NWS Spotter Network…sounds like it may be from Brett…but I could not verify. Spotter is 1 miles E of Salem, AL (Lee county) — Tornado path over 1 mile wide. Significant damage to structures. Tractor trailer destroyed in the middle of 280 near Salem. Severe Damage to trees and powerlines. And this…Spotter is in Salem, AL (Lee county) — Significant damage in the downtown area of Salem. Some structures completely destroyed. Unknown number of injuries reported form people in the area.

FLOODING
Josh Johnson in Montgomery shares this from one of his viewers:

There is an INCREDIBLE picture to be had by professional news photographers at the river in Wetumpka ….from the bridge BOTH directions, but particularly the lock …..IT IS UNDER WATER! I have lived in Wetumpka for (a whole) 3 years ……..this is a first for me to see…… I think it very newsworthy to show the banks and everything under water in only 1 day……!! Thank you ……..
