SCATTERED STORMS THROUGH TOMORROW: Moist, unstable air continues to cover Alabama this morning, and we project more scattered thunderstorms later today and early tonight. Forecasting the placement, coverage, and intensity of storms on a summer afternoon in Alabama is always a challenge due to their scattered and rather random nature, but the chance of any one spot getting wet later today is about 4 in 10. Some of the storms will pack a punch with lots of lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rain. The best chance of seeing a storm will come from about 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Otherwise, expect a mix of sun and clouds today with a high around 90 degrees.

A cold front will move into North Alabama late tomorrow, and a few more storms are possible, but the coverage of the storms most likely won’t be as great.

A CHANGE TO DRIER WEATHER: Drier air moves down into North Alabama tomorrow night, and the stage is set for shower-free weather across most of Alabama Wednesday through Friday with mostly sunny days, lower humidity, and cooler nights. Early morning lows will drop into the 60-65 degree range early Thursday and Friday morning, with potential for upper 50s for some of the cooler pockets. Highs will be in the 87 to 90 degree range, pretty comfortable for the middle of August in Alabama.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Looks like the dry air will stay with us Saturday with a good supply of sunshine, then we will mention just an outside risk of a shower or thunderstorm Sunday afternoon as moisture slowly returns. Highs over the weekend will be at, or just over 90 degrees.

Scattered showers and storms become more likely early next week as the moisture deepens across the state. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: The weather looks pretty good on the Gulf Coast this week from Panama City over to Gulf Shores, with about 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day and just a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Very similar conditions for the weekend. Highs will be in the upper 80s on the immediate coast, and the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 85 degrees.

TROPICAL WEATHER: A disturbance in the far eastern Atlantic, south of the Cape Verde Islands, has some potential for slow development later this week as it moves west/northwest. Way too early to determine if this will be an issue for the Caribbean or the Gulf.

The rest of the Atlantic basin is very quiet.
