RADAR CHECK: Most of the showers and storms across the northern half of Alabama are east of I-65 this afternoon… they are showing little movement, and will fade away once the sun goes down later this evening. Otherwise, we have a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures not as hot as recent days… generally between 85 and 90 degrees. The average high at Birmingham for September 21 is 84 degrees.

MORNING SUN, AFTERNOON STORMS: The upper ridge over the southern U.S. will weaken a bit in coming days… this means a general increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. Chance of any one community seeing rain today is around 50 percent, and close to 60 percent tomorrow and Friday. Most of the storms will come from about 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. Otherwise, look for a mix of sun and clouds each day with a high between 88 and 91 degrees.

RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers are few and far between across the northern third of Alabama this afternoon… but we do have a few heavier storms south of I-20 as I write this update at 3:15p CT. Heavy rain was falling over parts of Shelby County, and in the broad zone from Montgomery over to Alexander City and Opelika. Storms are moving slowly to the south, and will fade away later this evening once the sun goes down. Temperatures are in the low 90s in most places, but of course it is cooler where thunderstorms have formed.
