| October 3, 2014 @ 2:50 pm

RAIN IS OUT; COOLER AIR MOVING IN: The rain is mostly out of our state at mid-afternoon, and clouds are breaking up over the western counties as drier air moves in…

Temperatures will drop quickly this evening with a brisk northwest wind developing; we project a low in the mid 40s early tomorrow for most communities.

COOL WEEKEND: Tomorrow will be sunny, breezy, and cool; some spots north of Birmingham won’t get out of the 50s. The north wind will average 12-22 mph, with higher gusts possible. The low early Sunday will be in the 38-42 degree range; the record low for Birmingham for October 5 is 38 degrees set in 1987… we will be very close to that. Sunday will be sunny and pleasant with a high generally in the low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: Another lobe of energy rotating down the back side of the eastern U.S. upper trough could bring a few scattered showers Monday night or Tuesday, but rain amounts should be generally light and spotty with limited moisture.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The sky will be mostly fair for the high school games tonight, but the weather will be breezy and cooler with temperatures falling from the mid 60s at kickoff into the 50s by the second half of the games. A jacket is in order.

Tomorrow, Alabama travels to Ole Miss for a game that kicks off at 2:30 in Oxford. The weather could not be better. Total sunshine, about 68 degrees at kickoff with low humidity and a pleasant north breeze. Temperatures will fall to near 60 degrees by the final whistle.

Auburn hosts LSU tomorrow evening (6:00p kickoff) at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Again, a perfect night for football. A clear sky; 60 degrees at kickoff, with low 50s by the second half. Zero chance of rain. A jacket will be in order.

UAB plays at Western Kentucky tomorrow evening (6:00p kickoff)… it will be a clear, cool night in Bowling Green with 55 degrees at kickoff, then about 45 degrees by the fourth quarter.

GULF COAST WEATHER: A glorious weekend is ahead with sunny days and fair nights; highs will be in the 70s tomorrow and Sunday with a cloudless sky. Most of next week looks rain-free as well.

TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic basin.
