Today will be mostly sunny and cool with a high in the low 60s for most communities. A wave in the Gulf of Mexico will bring clouds into the state tonight, but the air will be pretty dry and we don’t expect anything more than a few sprinkles over the northern half of the state. Showers are possible across South Alabama tonight… maybe even a thunderstorm near the Gulf Coast.

ON THE MAPS: A surface front is over South Alabama this morning; north of that front temperatures are in the 37-45 degree range, but south of the front Dothan report 60 degrees just before daybreak. For North/Central Alabama, today will be mostly cloudy and cool with temperatures holding in the 40s north of Birmingham, with 50s south of I-20. The sun could break out a bit this afternoon, and the day should be dry. Showers will be confined to the far southern counties of the state.

WET AT TIMES OVER THE WEEKEND: Tomorrow will be cloudy and cool; many communities across the northern half of Alabama won’t get out of the 40s. Rain moves in during the afternoon hours… for now it looks like the main window for rain will come from noon until midnight. With a stable airmass in place, no worries with severe thunderstorms, and no thunder. Rain amounts will be generally 1/2 inch or less for most places.

QUIET WEEK: We are starting off the day with a fair sky and temperatures in the 30s and 40s at daybreak. We project a high between 62 and 65 degrees for most communities today with clouds slowly on the increase. A cold front will pass through the state tonight, and it looks like there will be enough moisture for a few showers along the front; rain amounts should be generally 1/4″ or less. Best chance of showers will come from about 7:00 p.m. through 3:00 a.m.

COOL, MOSTLY DRY: Clouds linger across Alabama in the wake of a cold front that passed through the state last night; temperatures are in the upper 40s and low to mid 50s, and those numbers won’t change much all day with a cool north breeze. Clearing will begin this afternoon, and tonight will be clear but chilly. We project lows early tomorrow in the 38-42 degree range for most North/Central Alabama communities… colder pockets could see some light frost.

Most of that rain will fall over Mobile and Baldwin counties… for the rest of the state the sky will be partly sunny with a high in the low 70s. Tomorrow will be dry statewide; with ample sunshine temperatures rise into the low 70s again. Clouds will thicken tomorrow night.

RADAR CHECK: Rain is still falling in the cool air over North/Central Alabama early this morning; that rain should end by mid-morning… but clouds will linger through much of the day. We could begin to see some clearing by late afternoon, but it will probably be tonight before the clouds go away for many places. Temperatures won’t get out of the 60s today, and some communities north of Birmingham could hold in the cool 50s for the second day in a row.
