Cooler/Wet Weather Ahead For Alabama

| March 17, 2015 @ 2:58 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; we are on the last stop of the First Alert Storm Team tour this evening; we will be at Burton Campers in Calera through 6:30 p.m.**

WARMTH OF THE SUN: Again today temperatures are close to 80 degrees across much of North/Central Alabama this afternoon. The sky is partly to mostly sunny, and we have no rain on radar.

Temperatures

However, a cold front is near Alabama’s northern border, and that will pass through in dry fashion tonight, and will usher in cooler temperatures for the rest of the week.

TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with a high between 67 and 70 degrees; rain will push into West Alabama by late afternoon, becoming widespread tomorrow night.

The weather will stay cloudy and wet at times Thursday and Friday; periods of rain are likely both days with a high in the mid 60s. The rain won’t be continuous, and there is no threat of severe weather, and probably not much thunder. Just be ready for rain at any time on both days.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The GFS continues to trend wetter. The 12Z GFS run hints that most of Saturday morning will be dry, but another surge of rain will arrive later Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Rain could linger into Sunday morning, with dry conditions Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. The sky will be cloudy both days and we project highs in the upper 60s. Very hard to provide specific start/stop times for the rain at this point.

NEXT WEEK: A surface low is forecast to move over South Alabama Monday, and the day looks wet with a few thunderstorms possible. Then, the rain ends Tuesday as the low moves northeast. Temperatures look cool Monday and Tuesday with highs between 58 and 61 degrees.

We will need to watch temperature trends; parts of North Alabama could see a light freeze early Wednesday morning of next week.
