AT DAYBREAK: A cold front passed through the state last night, and temperatures are mostly in the 50s as we begin this day. Expect a mostly cloudy sky today with a high around 70 degrees, about 10-12 degrees cooler than recent days. Rain will move into West Alabama late this afternoon, then becoming widespread tonight. The rain continues into at least part of the day tomorrow, mainly during the morning hours.

FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: The weather will stay unsettled, but there will be some good breaks in the rain along the way. Friday will be cloudy, and some scattered light rain is possible during the day with a high in the mid 60s.

A decent part of the day Saturday could work out to be rain-free, but a touch of light rain is certainly possible. The best chance of rain over the weekend will come Saturday night, with potential for some rain lingering into Sunday morning. The sky will be generally cloudy Saturday and Sunday with a high in the 67 to 70 degree range, right at seasonal averages for late March in Alabama.

Guidance from SPC suggests the heaviest rain in our state over the next five days will be around the U.S. 80 corridor (Demopolis to Selma to Montgomery to Opelika).

NEXT WEEK: Confidence in Monday’s forecast is low; GFS runs yesterday suggested a surface low moving over Alabama with a good rain event, but now the model is relatively dry for Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday look rain-free with a high around 70 degrees. The good news is that we see no chance of severe weather for our state for the rest of March.

AT THE BEACH: The sky will be mostly cloudy from Panama City over to Gulf Shores through the weekend, although you might see a bit of sun occasionally. There will be some risk of rain each day, but the rain won’t be continuous. Some of the most widespread rain will come Saturday night into Sunday… highs will be close to 70, with lows between 60 and 65.
