Good Summer Rain For Alabama

| July 23, 2015 @ 3:26 pm

Anyone remember the song by Johnny Rivers?

“Summer rain taps at my window
West wind soft as a sweet dream
My love warm as the sunshine
Sittin’ here by me, she’s here by me”

We have enjoyed some very beneficial summer rain across the great state of Alabama today…

Stronger storms this evening will produce heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds as they move southeast. Showers and storms will diminish tonight.

Birmingham’s high today was only 87 degrees… the first day below 90 since July 6.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: The upper ridge will begin to rebuild; the air aloft will be warmer, and our weather will trend hotter and drier. Tomorrow thunderstorms will be more scattered, and mostly during the afternoon and evening hours; temperatures go back up into the low 90s.

We project mid 90s Saturday and Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days. Understand storms are certainly possible over the weekend, but they will be widely spaced, and mostly during the peak of the daytime heat.

NEXT WEEK: Hot, humid weather continues early next week with a decent amount of summer sun, and a few scattered storms each afternoon. The upper ridge weakens again later in the week, with an increase in showers and storms likely by Thursday and Friday (July 30-31). See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily on the coast from Gulf Shores west to Panama City Beach through the weekend, with a passing thunderstorm from time to time. Maximum temperatures will stay in the upper 80s on the immediate coast, with mid 90s just a few miles inland. Sea water temperatures are mostly in the mid 80s; See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet. Global models have hinted at lower pressure just off the South Atlantic coast of the U.S. in a few days, but little development. If anything happens to form there, it won’t impact Alabama.
