Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Warm Weekend Ahead

| September 18, 2015 @ 6:21 am

WARM, CALM WEATHER PATTERN: We begin the day with a fair sky and temperatures mostly in the 60s; expect a good supply of sunshine today with high in the upper 80s this afternoon.

THE WEEKEND: Afternoons will stay warm; we will project a high in the 87 to 90 degree range both days. A weak surface front north of the state could trigger a few widely scattered showers or storms Saturday night or Sunday over North Alabama; below is output valid at 7p CT tomorrow from the high resolution NAM model…

We might have to consider mentioning some small risk of a shower during the Alabama/Ole Miss game at Tuscaloosa, but for now we will leave the forecast dry. One way or another rain amounts Saturday night and Sunday should be light and spotty.

NEXT WEEK: With the weak front nearby, along with an upper trough setting up just east of here, we will mention the risk of widely scattered showers Monday and Tuesday, but nothing widespread or heavy. Highs on these two days will be in the mid 80s. The risk of rain for the rest of the week looks rather low; see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Expect a clear sky for the high school games tonight with temperatures falling through the 70s. No lightning delays this week.

The sky will be mostly fair for the Alabama/Ole Miss game tomorrow night in Tuscaloosa with a kickoff temperature near 78 degrees (8:15p CT), falling through the 70s during the game. As noted above, the chance of rain is not completely zero for this game, but for now we will leave the risk of showers out of the forecast. Auburn travels to Baton Rouge to play LSU tomorrow… kickoff is at 2:30. It will feel more like summer with 92 degrees at kickoff with a mostly sunny sky.

TROPICS: Tropical Depression nine in the Central Atlantic is expected to weaken into an open wave during the next 24 hours; another wave west of this one could become Tropical Depression ten later today, but it will be gaining latitude and is not expected to last long.

A wave east of Florida could develop slowly in coming days, but if that happens it should remain east of the U.S.

GULF COAST WEATHER: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine along the coast from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores through early next week with only widely scattered showers or thunderstorms. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s; the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 77 degrees.
