RADAR CHECK: Showers and storms are increasing across Northwest Alabama this afternoon…

We will forecast a good chance of showers and thunderstorms across the northern half of Alabama tonight; it won’t rain all night, but rain could come at any time along with some lightning and thunder. Looks like the most widespread rain will come from about 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. for places like Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, and Gadsden.

A strong thunderstorm is not out of the question, but organized severe weather is not expected. Take the rain gear if you are headed to the Alabama concert in Tuscaloosa, or a high school football game.

THE WEEKEND: Showers end before sunrise, and the sky becomes mostly sunny during the day as cooler, drier air flows into the state; the high will be in the mid 70s. Sunday looks delightful with ample sunshine; we begin the day around 50, and rise into the upper 70s by afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front will bring some risk of showers during the pre-dawn hours Tuesday, otherwise the week looks great with mostly sunny, pleasant days and clear cool nights. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: A few showers and storms are likely at high school games tonight. A lightning delay or two is certainly possible; temperatures will be in the 70s. Take the rain gear.

Alabama will host Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium tomorrow evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair, with temperatures falling from 68 degrees at kickoff into the low 60s by the final whistle. Some will want a light jacket or sweater walking from the stadium back to your car after the game.

NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL: The weather looks very nice in Gulf Shores for the annual event this weekend; mostly sunny days, fair nights, highs around 80 degrees. The chance of a shower is so small we won’t mention it in the forecast. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
