Trending Drier Tomorrow; Mild Afternoons

| November 2, 2015 @ 3:13 pm

RADAR CHECK: Areas of light rain and drizzle continue across Central Alabama this afternoon; it will end this evening as an upper trough moves east of the state. Parts of the state have managed to see a little sunshine this afternoon, but low clouds will fill back in overnight, and there could be some pretty dense fog in spots after midnight.

TOMORROW THROUGH THURSDAY: Low level moisture will linger across the state with dew points in the 60s, but there isn’t any real dynamic forcing for rain. So, each day will feature morning clouds and fog, some afternoon sunshine, and a few isolated showers. The chance of any one spot getting wet on these three days is relatively low (20 percent or less). The weather will be very mild, with highs well up in the 70s; a few spots could approach 80 degrees Wednesday and Thursday afternoon with an upper ridge overhead.

FRIDAY: Moisture begins to deepen, and with the approach of an upper trough and cold front, showers will become more widespread Friday afternoon and Friday night. Maybe even a few thunderstorms involved. The weather stays very mild with a high in the mid to upper 70s Friday afternoon.

SATURDAY: Rain and storms are likely Saturday morning; the big question involves timing the ending of the rain. The GFS (American model) is faster, suggesting the rain will push into South Alabama by early afternoon, while the ECMWF (European model) is slower, keeping the rain across North/Central Alabama through the evening hours. The Euro has performed well this season, so we will lean toward the slower solution for now. The rain exits the area Saturday night.

SUNDAY/MONDAY: Cooler, drier continental air settles into the state. The GFS is printing a low of 41 for Birmingham early Sunday, followed by a high in the low to mid 60s. Pretty much the same temperature setup for Monday.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: The GFS continues to hint at some risk of strong storms toward the middle of next week, around Wednesday November 11. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Forecast confidence for the Alabama/LSU game in Tuscaloosa Saturday night (7:00p CT kickoff) is not especially high as noted above, but I do believe there is a decent chance the rain will be over by kickoff. No guarantee, and this could easily change. Temperatures will fall from around 65 at kickoff into the 50s by the second half.

Auburn is on the road; they face Texas A&M in College Station Saturday night (6:30p CT kickoff)… the weather there is very similar to the weather expected in Tuscaloosa. Rain and storms are likely during the day Saturday, but it looks like the rain will end before kickoff. Temperatures will fall from the mid 60s at kickoff, to near 60 degrees by the final whistle.

Again, the forecast for both games can change, so check for updates through the week..

AT THE BEACH: Rain and storms have moved east of the Central Gulf Coast this afternoon; expect about 4 to 6 hours of sunshine daily tomorrow through Thursday with a few widely scattered showers or storms. The chance of rain will increase on the coast again by Friday and Saturday. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here.
