QUIET MONDAY: We do note a few small patches of light rain across the state early this morning, but most of the day should be rain-free with a mix of sun and clouds; temperatures reach the mid 70s this afternoon. The average high for Birmingham on March 30 is 70.
ANOTHER QUIET DAY: Temperatures will rise into the 78-83 degree range across most of Alabama this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. We can’t rule out a few showers, but they should be few and far between. The average high for Birmingham on March 19 is 68.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few small, isolated showers on radar across Alabama this afternoon, otherwise the weather is dry with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures are well up in the 70s; a few spots have reached 80 degrees. Any showers tonight will remain few and far between as the really active weather remains well to the west of Alabama.
RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers are very widely spaced across Alabama this afternoon. We are seeing a few showers in a band from near Marion to Goodwater to Roanoke at mid-afternoon; they are moving slowly eastward. For the rest of the state, we have a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures mostly in the 70s. Showers will remain isolated tonight; the sky becomes mostly cloudy.
QUIET MARCH PATTERN: While a few showers will show up from time to time, the mid-week period looks pretty quiet for much of Alabama as an upper high over the Gulf of Mexico continues to nose into the state from the south. Look for a mix of sun and clouds today and tomorrow with just a few widely scattered showers; temperatures rise into the mid 70s today… by tomorrow afternoon we will be pretty close to 80. Thursday will be mostly dry, and most likely it will be the warmest day so far this year with a high in the low to mid 80s.
MORE RAIN THIS WEEK: The day today will be dry for most of the state; the sky will feature more clouds than sun, and temperatures rise into the 60s in most places this afternoon. Showers will enter West Alabama tonight, and will spread eastward overnight.
CLOUDY, MILD WEATHER TODAY: Moist air has returned to Alabama; we have light to moderate rain falling over about the northern half of the state this morning. Look for a high around 70 degrees today; the sky will stay cloudy with some rain at times. But, it won’t rain all day, and there is no risk of severe storms.
SPRING PREVIEW: As advertised this morning, temperatures are around 70 degrees over much of Alabama this afternoon; the average high for Birmingham on February 3 is 56. The record high for the date is 80 set in 1990. Birmingham reports 73 degrees at 3:00p CT; this ties the warmest temperature recorded in 2020 (we also hit 73 on January 11). The sky is mostly sunny, but clouds will increase tonight as moisture begins to return to the state.
BIG WARM-UP TODAY: Temperatures are all over the board this morning; across North Alabama at 5:00 a.m. they range from 32 at Fort Payne to 55 at Muscle Shoals. But, everyone warms up nicely today as temperatures climb toward the 70 degree mark along with a partly to mostly sunny. The average high for Birmingham on February 3 is 56.
STILL MILD: We are forecasting a high around 70 degrees this afternoon; the average high at Birmingham on January 15 is 54. The radar is quiet this morning, but a few showers and storms will likely form over the northern half of the state this afternoon. The rain won’t be as widespread as yesterday, but a few heavier storms are possible… SPC has about the northern quarter of the state in a low end, “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe storms. Stronger storms could produce small hail and gusty winds, but the overall threat remains low.
