RADAR CHECK: We have a few lingering showers over parts of North and East Alabama; those will be out of the state soon. The sky is clearing over the western counties, and the clearing will work its way eastward tonight as dry air arrives.
RADAR CHECK: We have a large mass of rain over northern and western part of Alabama this morning gradually moving eastward. There are a few embedded thunderstorms, but as we expected there were no severe storms overnight. Gradient winds (non-thunderstorm) remain high east of the rain, but those winds will diminish later this morning.
TONIGHT: A band of showers and thunderstorms will push into Alabama late tonight, mostly after midnight. Thankfully there will be little to no surface based instability available over the northern 2/3 of the state, so the line of storms will be weakening, and the threat of severe storms remains low in our state.
DYNAMIC WEATHER SYSTEM AHEAD: Alabama’s weather will stay dry today; the sky will be generally cloudy with a high in the 67-73 degree range this afternoon. Gradient winds ahead of a storm system will ramp up today, averaging 15-25 mph with potential for higher gusts.
RADAR CHECK: Large areas of mostly light rain continue over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon. South Alabama is mostly dry; in fact the sun is out across the southwest counties of the state, where temperatures have reached the low 70s.
RADAR CHECK: Light rain continues to develop across Alabama early this morning, and we will forecast occasional rain through tonight as an upper trough approaches. The day will be cloudy and cool with highs in the mid 60s for most communities; rain amounts will be around 1/2 inch through late tonight.
MILD MARCH DAY: Temperatures are in the mid 70s across most of Alabama this afternoon; clouds will continue to increase through tonight ahead of a system producing rain over parts of Louisiana and South Mississippi.
ONE MORE DRY DAY: With a partly sunny sky, we project a high in the mid 70s for most Alabama communities today. Clouds will slowly increase late this afternoon and tonight ahead of a weather system to the west.
NICE WARM-UP: As expected, temperatures are near 70 degrees across Alabama this afternoon despite a cold start with lows in the 30s for most places. The sky is mostly sunny, and tonight will be fair with a low in the 40s.
ANOTHER COLD START: Temperatures are in the 30s across much of Alabama early this morning, and a few colder spots have reached the freezing mark again. But, expect a very nice warm-up today… with ample sunshine we expect a high in the low 70s this afternoon.
SUNNY, COOL AFTERNOON: Despite sunshine in full supply, temperatures are only in the 50s across Alabama this afternoon. We note the average high for Birmingham on March 19 is 68.
Today will be sunny with a high between 57 and 64 degrees. Tonight will be clear and not as cold as last night, but some of the colder pockets across North/Central Alabama could be close to freezing by daybreak tomorrow. Then, a warming trend begins tomorrow afternoon with a high in the low 70s for most places.
BREEZY, COOL AFTERNOON: The sky is mostly sunny across Alabama this afternoon with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. A freeze warning is in effect for all of Alabama tonight, with the exception of Houston, Geneva, and the southern half of Mobile and Baldwin counties.
FREEZE WARNING: Colder air rolls into Alabama today along with a brisk north wind. Temperatures will hold in the 50s over the northern half of the state despite a mostly sunny sky. A freeze warning is in effect tonight for most of Alabama, as far south as Jackson, Brewton, Troy, and Eufaula.
