Irma Weakens To A Tropical Depression
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast, and Irma is expected to degenerate into a remnant low by Monday evening. The low is likely to dissipate by Tuesday evening.
Katia Dissipates Over The Terrain Of Eastern Mexico But Threat For Heavy Rainfall Continues
At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the remnants of Katia were located near latitude 20.0 North, longitude 97.9 West. The remnants are moving toward the west-southwest near 5 mph (7 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue for the next day or so.
Flooding Rains Continue Over Extreme Eastern Texas And Western Louisiana
At 1000 PM CDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Harvey was located near latitude 31.7 North, longitude 92.3 West. The depression is moving toward the north-northeast near 9 mph (15 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue tonight. A turn toward the northeast is expected Thursday or Thursday night. On the forecast track, the center of Harvey should move through central Louisiana tonight, then move through northeastern Louisiana and northwestern Mississippi Thursday and Thursday night, and over the Tennessee Valley region on Friday.
Disturbance Moving Away From The North Carolina Coast
At 500 PM EDT (2100 UTC), the disturbance was centered off the coast of North Carolina near latitude 36.0 North, longitude 74.3 West. The system is moving toward the northeast near 20 mph (31 km/h), and it is expected to accelerate further toward the northeast and east-northeast during the next couple of days. The disturbance will continue to move away from the North Carolina coast over the western Atlantic Ocean tonight.
Gert Becomes A Post-tropical Cyclone
At 500 PM AST (2100 UTC), the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Gert was located near latitude 44.8 North, longitude 46.0 West. The post-tropical cyclone is moving toward the east-northeast near 39 mph (63 km/h). Gert should move quickly toward the northeast for a day or so, before slowing and merging with another low pressure system over the weekend.
Hurricane Hunter Aircraft En-Route To Investigate The Disturbance
At 200 PM AST (1800 UTC), the disturbance was centered near latitude 13.1 North, longitude 54.1 West. The system is moving toward the west near 17 mph (28 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the disturbance should move through the Windward Islands and into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Friday.
Depression Forecast To Become A Tropical Storm Later Today Or Tonight
At 1100 AM EDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Eight was located near latitude 27.4 North, longitude 71.5 West. The depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue through today. A turn toward the north is forecast to occur tonight, followed by a turn toward the north-northeast on Monday.
Franklin Dissipates Over Mexico
At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the remnants of Franklin were located near latitude 19.7 North, longitude 99.2 West. The remnants are moving toward the west near 20 mph (31 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue today.
Disturbance Expected To Become A Tropical Storm Overnight
At 800 PM EDT (0000 UTC), the disturbance was centered near latitude 16.1 North, longitude 82.7 West. The system is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue over the next 48 hours. On the forecast track, the center will pass north of Honduras tonight and early Monday, then approach the east coast of the Yucatan peninsula Monday afternoon. The system is forecast to move across Yucatan Peninsula Monday night and Tuesday.
Emily Becomes Post-tropical
At 1100 PM EDT (0300 UTC), the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Emily was located near latitude 30.9 North, longitude 78.0 West. The post-tropical cyclone is moving toward the north-northeast near 9 mph (15 km/h), and a faster motion toward the northeast is forecast for the next couple of days.
