After we have a cold front move through the area during the late-night on Monday and into the pre-dawn hours on Tuesday, we’ll need to be ready for the Arctic blast that will be hitting us on Tuesday.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is fairly widespread across Alabama this afternoon ahead of a cold front near the Alabama/Tennessee border. The air has become unstable over far Southwest Alabama, and a brief tornado is possible with storms there over the next few hours. Otherwise, just rain with little if any thunder for the northern two-thirds of the state this evening.
The southeastern US radar composite as of 11:00 am shows a few scattered showers over the western parts of Central Alabama and potentially a few showers falling over parts of Blount and Cullman counties.
COLD FRONT ON THE WAY: Clouds have returned to Alabama this morning, and we expect a few periods of rain this afternoon and early tonight ahead of a cold front. The main window for rain comes from 12:00 noon until 12:00 midnight, and rain amounts should be under 1/2 inch for most places as moisture will be limited. No risk of severe storms, and most likely very little thunder. The high this afternoon will be in the upper 60s.
The online used-car retailer will deliver automobiles from a hub in Bessemer.

The mill will create 28 jobs and support the company’s Gadsden processing plant.
