At 5:24 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Fairfield to near Ashby to near Parnell. Movement was east at 60 mph. Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with these storms.
At 511 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.
The latest SPC Severe Weather Outlook has nearly all of the southern half of Central Alabama in a LEVEL 3 ENHANCED RISK, while nearly all of the rest of North/Central Alabama is in a LEVEL 2 SLIGHT RISK. The northwest corner of North/Central Alabama is in a LEVEL 1 MARGINAL RISK.
Strong thunderstorms are affecting northern Perry, southeastern Hale, and southwestern Bibb Counties in West Alabama.
Emergency managers confirm a tornado in the storm moving into Wayne County in eastern Mississippi.
Tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds are possible in the watch area.
At 3:24 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Zero, or near Meridian, moving east at 60 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.
A quasi-linear line of intense thunderstorms with torrential downpours will slowly track eastward through the early morning hours. Periods of training may result in hourly rainfall rates approaching 3 inches per hour and will likely lead to additional instances of flooding.
