A winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon for Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston Counties until noon tomorrow. Up to one-half inch of snow may fall over these counties between midnight and 10 a.m. tomorrow. Plan on slippery conditions during the early morning hours tomorrow morning in the advisory area.
There are now reports of some sleet in Western Jefferson County, but the main precipitation will arrive after midnight.
We are seeing signs that snow accumulations could be a little higher than expected over parts of West Alabama early Monday morning.
One interesting thing to watch, the latest runs of the HRRR have increased snow amounts over West Central Alabama a bit, now showing 1-2 inches for parts of Tuscaloosa County, as well as part of Pickens and Sumter County.
Not much has changed in our thinking regarding tonight’s winter weather threat. A wintry mix will enter West Alabama after midnight. The best chance for snow accumulations will be in parts of Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Marion, Winston, Cullman, Marshall, northern Etowah, and DeKalb Counties northward into the Tennessee Valley Counties of North Alabama.
The snow system to the west of Alabama has been overperforming this morning, but the thinking has not changed for us here in our state. Up to one half inch of snow is possible late tonight and early Monday morning for parts of Northwest and North Alabama.
We are monitoring for the potential for a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain across roughly the northeastern half of North and Central Alabama late tonight and Monday morning. The best chance for light snow accumulations will be northwest of a line from Reform to Jasper to Fort Payne.
We will have regular updates throughout Sunday, Sunday night, and into Monday morning as the situation unfolds.
