ACTIVE NIGHT AHEAD: As expected, most of Alabama is enjoying a spring-like day today with temperatures in the 70s; a few spots in West Alabama are flirting with 80 degrees. The exception is the northeast corner of the state, where a wedge of cooler air still in place. A cold front will slice into the state tonight, and the risk of severe storms has increased based on the latest model data.

MILD WINTER DAY: A storm system is forming northwest of Alabama, and is set to bring lots of snow from northern Kansas to near Chicago over the next 36 hours, where winter storm warnings are in effect. But we will be in the warm sector of the system, and we project temperatures in the low 70s this afternoon, almost 20 degree above average for late January in Alabama.
