Critical Rip Current Situation Along Gulf Coast This Week

A dangerous rip current situation is underway along the beautiful beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida.

With lots of spring breakers at the shore, the situation is especially critical.

A long fetch of wind across the entire length of the Gulf of Mexico from Yucatan to Alabama and Northwest Florida has set up a train of powerful swells that are pounding the northern Gulf Coast with lots of wave energy. It is a classic situation for life threatening rip currents and dangerous surf.

Waves will be 5-7 feet through Sunday, which is very dangerous for swimmers of any skill.

Please let your friends and families who might be heading to the beach know about the threat.
