Huge Rainfalls to Our West

| March 11, 2016 @ 10:46 am

Alabama remains just east of the huge rain event that has been occurring for the last several days just to our west. The map below was generated on Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) site within the National Weather Service. This map shows the rainfall amounts based on rainfall estimates coming primarily from the NWS Doppler radar network.

Significant flooding continues to plague portions of the Lower Mississippi River Valley focused primarily on East Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, West Tennessee, and Mississippi. In fact, according to the AHPS web site, there were 13 river gauges reporting major flooding, 33 gauges with moderate flooding, 92 gauges with minor flooding, and 177 gauges near flood stage.

Once again, weather forecasters have done a remarkably good job at identifying the potential for this flood event.
