That is always an extra problem in tropical storms and hurricanes. Indeed, a tropical depression can sometimes dump as much rain as a tropical storm or hurricane. Fay never had the honor of being a hurricane and look what she did.

Check out this QPF chart showing projected storm totals for the next five days. How about that 15+ inch strip all the way from the Louisiana Coast north to where U.S. 82 goes across South Arkansas between El Dorado and Texarkana. Note that even the Biloxi-Gulfport area may get 8 inches.

Actually, some areas may get more. Some of the models want to stall Mr Gustav inland, possible over NE Texas. IF that happens don’t be surprised to see some 20 inch amounts.

Flash flooding is often the underrated part of a tropical system.
