After an evening with showers and thunderstorms, Friday couldn’t be better. Skies across the area are mostly clear, with a few cumulus clouds floating around. Dew points are starting to drop, as the cooler and drier air is moving in. Dew points in North Alabama are down in the 40s, with 50s in Central Alabama, and 60s in the southern part of the state.

QUICK LOOK AT TEMPERATURES: Most communities are into the 70s, with the warm spot in the state being Mobile at 83. Here is a list of temperature readings from across the state at this time:

Birmingham 72
Tuscaloosa 74
Muscle Shoals 71
Huntsville 72
Anniston 73
Alexander City 73
Montgomery 79
Dothan 75
Mobile 83

REST OF TODAY: Drier air will continue to work into Alabama today, with a good supply of sun and lower humidity levels. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to 80 for most communities in North/Central Alabama.

THE WEEKEND: Dry weather continues with a cooling trend; the high tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 80s, and guidance continues to trend cooler for Sunday. Models are now suggesting highs will be in the upper 60s for Sunday, almost 15 degrees below average for mid May in Alabama. And, many communities will reach the upper 40s early Sunday morning.

HEADED TO THE BEACH: Just a slight risk of a shower today on the coast from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach, otherwise mostly sunny days and fair nights though early next week. Highs around 80 on the immediate coast, with mid 80s inland. See a very detailed beach forecast here.

THE REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22. Very hard to pinpoint the days with the highest risk of showers this far in advance, but for now it looks like we will have some risk of showers Wednesday through Friday (May 18-20), followed by a drier setup for the weekend (May 21-22). Highs will be in the 80s. Find out more information and purchase your tickets here.
