Other than showers and a few thunderstorms moving off to the east across the southern quarter of the state, much of the rest of the state is dry at this point. There are a few remnant showers left over from the MCS that passed through this morning in Northeastern Alabama, but these are falling apart and should be out of the state within the next hour. There are a few sprinkles making their way northward through Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, Walker, and St. Clair Counties at this time. These should remain as sprinkles and continue pushing off to the north. As far as the satellite view at this hour, most of the state, and the southeast, is covered with clouds. There are a few breaks allowing some sun to shine, but mainly mostly cloudy.

REST OF TODAY: With the Mesoscale Convective System that passed through the state earlier this morning, stabilization has occurred over much of the area. A surface low, now located over Western Mississippi, will try to move along the main front later this afternoon and tonight. The severe threat has weakened for the rest of the day, but the possibility of additional showers or storms could develop along and ahead of the front. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 70s for Central Alabama. The SPC has removed every part of Alabama from any risk for severe storms for the remainder of today and tonight.

CLIMATOLOGY FOR BIRMINGHAM: The normal high temperature for May 19th in Birmingham is 82, while the normal low is 59. The record high of 97 was reached in 1962. The record low of 41 was set back in 2002.

THE WEEKEND: We could see some lingering clouds early tomorrow morning, otherwise we expect mostly sunny, warm weather tomorrow and Sunday with high temperatures close to, or just over 80 degrees. Humidity levels will be a bit lower, and we should drop into the 50s early Sunday morning.

HEADED TO THE BEACH: The Hangout Music Festival is this weekend at Gulf Shores… they had some big storms early this morning, and a few additional showers and storms are possible later today and early tonight. But, it won’t rain all day, and the sun will break out at times. Then, the sky will be mostly sunny tomorrow and Sunday. Highs will be close to 80 on the immediate coast; the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 79 degrees. See a very detailed beach forecast here.

THE REGIONS TRADITION: Despite occasional showers and storms today, they should be able to get some golf in at Greystone. A small risk of a shower or storm comes this afternoon, and the high will be in the 77-80 degree range. The weather will be fine tomorrow and Sunday with ample sunshine and highs close to 80 degrees.
