Mostly Dry Through Sunday

| July 1, 2016 @ 2:08 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; I am live in Centreville for a Fourth of July event on ABC 33/40 News at 4, 5, and 6:00**

RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers and storms are almost impossible to find across Alabama this afternoon with relatively dry air in place. Dewpoints are in the 50s, and humidity values are generally in the 30 percent range, making the 90s feel as comfortable as possible.

THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Not much change tomorrow and Sunday. Understand the chance of an afternoon shower or storm is not zero, but most communities will stay dry as any showers will be few and far between. Days will be partly sunny; nights mostly fair. Highs will be up in the mid 90s both afternoons.

We do expect to see an increase in the number of showers and storms Monday, but they will still be scattered and it won’t rain everywhere. Chance of any one spot seeing a shower or storm Monday afternoon is about one in three, and most of the showers will come from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. The GFS is printing a high of 92 Monday afternoon at Birmingham.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: We expect pretty routine summer weather, with partly sunny days and the risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. Highs will be generally in the 90-95 degree range.

TROPICS: Tropical storm formation is not expected at least over the next five days across the Atlantic basin.

AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily on the coast from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach through early next week with a few scattered storms. Highs will be in the upper 80s on the immediate coast, with 90s inland. Sea water temperatures are mostly in the mid to upper 80s. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

AIR QUALITY ALERT: A “code orange” air quality alert has been issued for the Birmingham metro (Jefferson and Shelby Counties) again tomorrow due to the potential of ground level ozone.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
