Generally Dry Weather Continues This Week

| September 5, 2016 @ 7:14 am

SHOWERS HARD TO FIND THIS WEEK: An upper high will remain parked across the Deep South this week, meaning generally dry weather continuing for much of Alabama with temperatures above average.

Expect a high in the 90-93 degree range today and tomorrow with a good supply of sunshine both days. Mid 90s are likely Wednesday; that is above the average high of 87, but nowhere near the record high of 104 for September 7, set during the brutally hot summer of 1925.

Thursday and Friday should see highs between 91 and 94 with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Chance of rain stay so small we won’t mention it in the forecast.

WEEKEND PEEK: Moisture levels rise a bit, and as the upper high weakens slightly we will introduce the chance of “widely scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” Saturday and Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds both days. Highs drop back into the 88-91 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: As the ridge breaks down, seems like the chance of showers and storms will be higher during a decent part of the week with highs generally in the 80s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Hermine has been a post tropical storm in recent days; it is hanging around off the upper Atlantic coast, and will continue to bring dangerous surf and rip currents, but otherwise it has been far enough off shore for major issues thankfully. It finally kicks out to sea later this week.

A wave (92L) is moving through the Windward Islands this morning… it will move through the Caribbean in coming days, but shear and dry and will make it difficult for this one to develop. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

AT THE BEACH: Generally cloudy today with a few showers and storms likely on the coast from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach, but the rest of the week looks nice with mostly sunny days and only isolated showers. Highs will be in the upper 80s on the immediate coast, with low 90s inland. Sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 83 degrees.
