We Have A Few Sprinkles Out There At Midday, But The Streak Continues

WE HAVE A FEW SPRINKLES AROUND
A mix of sun and clouds is the main story out there across Central Alabama at this midday hour, and a few sprinkles are out there. Some are showing up around the Demopolis area, and a few more up in the northeastern corner of the state. Unfortunately, most of the heavier precipitation will stay in the southern parts of the state, away from the Birmingham Area. It looks like Birmingham will end up dry again today and push the consecutive rain-free streak up to 51 days.

TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE STATE AT 1:15PM CST
Most communities in Central Alabama are up in the 60s and low 70s at this point, with warmer temperatures south of the area. The warm spot in the state is Demopolis at 75, while the cool spot is Fort Payne at 64.

BIRMINGHAM’S CLIMATOLOGY AND RECORDS
The normal high for November 8th is 67, while the normal low is 44. The record high for today was set back in 2005 at 84. The record low was set back in 1971 at 24.

REST OF TODAY
Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy across Central Alabama, and a few spots may get a sprinkle or two, but no measurable rainfall for anyone in the area is expected. Afternoon highs will be in the low 70s for the most part. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy for the evening and overnight hours, with lows dropping mostly into the low 50s.

WEDNESDAY’S FORECAST
Day 52 in the rain-free streak, tying the all-time record for Birmingham set back in 1924. The morning will start off cool with temperatures in the 50s at 6AM under mostly cloudy skies. Skies will clear out during the morning hours and should be mostly clear by the time the lunch hour arrives. Afternoon highs will range in the upper 60s to the mid 70s throughout the area, with Birmingham topping out at 70 degrees. Skies will be clear for the evening and overnight hours, with lows drooping off into the 30s and 40s.

HEADED TO THE BEACH
Showers remain possible with very little sun on the coast from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach today and tomorrow, then expect sunny days and clear nights Thursday through the weekend. Highs mostly in the 70s. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

THE TROPICS
The Atlantic Basin is quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the next five days. Good news is that the Atlantic Hurricane Season comes to a close at the end of this month.

ON THIS DAY IN 1989
Afternoon and evening thunderstorms developing along and ahead of a cold front produced severe weather from northern Louisiana into central Georgia. Thunderstorms spawned three tornadoes, and there were sixty-four reports of large hail or damaging winds. A late afternoon thunderstorm in central Georgia spawned a tornado which killed one person and injured eight others at Pineview. Late afternoon thunderstorms in central Mississippi produced baseball size hail around Jackson, and wind gusts to 70 mph Walnut Grove.
